Speech Therapy Available on Spetses Island

On Saturday, 20 of September 2025, the NISSIMOU Non Profit Organization based on Spetses Island, introduced to 5 local families, the Speech Therapy program for the school year 2025-2026.

The presentation and information session started with Mrs Hannah Beraud-Hindi founder of NISSIMOU and mother of Athina, 7 years old, diabetic type 1 and autistic.

It was then followed by Mrs. Zoi Fostini, independent and certified Speech and Language Therapist living in Kranidi, with the presentation of her program.

Mrs. Zoi Fostini explained: what is Speech and Language Therapy, why it is important, the role of the parents at home to support their children and how using the MAKATON method can be beneficial for the child’s speech development.

The event took place at the NISSIMOU centre in Agios Panteleimonas, in the hills of the island, and the room was full of parents. In total, we registered 5 children who for the first time, will have access to SLT services every week on the island. No need to travel to Kranidi, Ermioni or even further to Athens or Nafplio anymore!

The commitment of a therapist such as Mrs. Maria Vrana, Occupational Therapist, and Mrs. Fostini, to come to the island 2 days per week in order to provide her services to these children, is a very big step for the island and a very big support for the families. We are grateful to all the therapists who make the effort to travel to the children instead of the children having to travel to visit them. Together, Mrs. Fostini and Mrs. Vrana are supporting more than 10 children 2-12 years old on Spetses.

We also welcomed special guests during the presentation, including Mrs. Ellianna Mantaka Brinkmann - Speech and Language Therapist from Athens / Founder of the HOUSE HUB Non Profit Organization in Athens / Scientific Supervisor of NISSIMOU - and Mrs. Efthymia Psarakou - Manager of the COMMUNITY TRUST SPETSES Non Profit Organization.
